For hundreds of years, silicosis has been a serious occupational health issue for workers in mining, quarrying, stone cutting, stone grinding, and other occupations where crystalline silica dust is generated. This session will discuss what silicosis is and what measures should be taken to prevent the disease.
Course Content & Learning Objectives:
- Silica History & Risk Overview: Review a brief history of silicosis and the risk presents to workers.
- Silica Air Sampling Overview: Learn about the process of air monitoring to determine exposure levels.
- Engineering Controls, Housekeeping, and PPE: Review engineering controls, best practices, and PPE to protect workers from respirable crystalline silica (RCS).
